Saltbush Spice

Introducing our Saltbush Spice, a true taste of the Australian outback in a convenient spice form. Old Man Saltbush (Atriplex nummularia) is native to the arid and semi-arid inland of Australia, thriving across the dry plains and floodplains of New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. This hardy, silver-leafed shrub flourishes in salty, sun-drenched soils where few other plants can survive, giving its leaves their distinctive character.

Flavour Notes Saltbush delivers a naturally savoury, mineral saltiness balanced by earthy, herbaceous notes reminiscent of sage and dried greens. A subtle umami depth rounds out the flavour, making it a gentler, more complex alternative to table salt.

Uses This versatile, all-natural ingredient brings a hint of the wild to everyday cooking. Use it in seasonings, marinades and rubs, sprinkle it over roasted vegetables or chips, or mix it into breads and savoury baking. It pairs especially well with lamb, beef, fish, potatoes and eggs, and can be used to reduce added salt without losing flavour.
